The Campers are Coming!

Dear All,
I'm glad to hear you are well and encourage you to persist in training to the best of your ability in accordance with Hebrews 12. These past two weeks have been crazy here in staff training, and I'm striving hard to fulfill both my running and the mission of Deerfoot Lodge to build Godly young men through wilderness camping. However, I must be real when I say while that I love running, my priority, at present, must be the latter.
I had a great time in the high peaks once again this week on staff hike, during which we knocked out 5 mountains, including the Macintyre Range. I'm proud to say Mattie that I'm only 6 mountains away from my ADK 46.

All in all, I've been albe to do about 20 miles a week these past two weeks, but I've been doing the dynamic routine after each run and sometimes before, and yesterday on our last staff run I knocked out a 10:45 for about 2 miles. Over this upcoming week, I'm planning to put in a regular 30-40 minutes each morning before staff meeting at 7 am.

Tuck in your cloak and run like Elijah,

Ian

Who do you say Jesus is?

My goal in life is to become more like Jesus with each day that passes by. Often times I think we try to define Jesus in literal qualities. We attempt to assemble all the attributes and qualities we possibly can (all of which are good of course) and generally he gets put into our own little perception of Jesus box. This Jesus box contains all the quantitative qualities that Jesus had/has. People attempt to talk and relate to him according to what is in the box.

When we look at what the Bible has to say about who Jesus was/is we see him say that he is the Son of Man, bread, light, water and vines. Most of the time when referencing who he is or his character he speak in poetry and parables. These metaphors provide an array of qualities to help us define our Lord Jesus, but instead I want to look at Jesus through another lens. When John the Baptist sent people to confirm Jesus as the Messiah, after they ask him, Jesus asks who the people say he is.

Instead of looking at Jesus as a list of constants ask yourself who Jesus is to your life. How have your encounters with him and the writing about him led you to experience him? C.S. Lewis once said “Jesus is the question not the answer, Jesus relies on our experience, our encounters with him first, and then out of this he asks us Who do you say I am.” Take a moment and ask yourself that question. Then ask yourself how you are like Jesus. And how can you become more like Jesus.

late Chaplainly thingy

I just got home from ALASKA!!! So I had internet but I was lame and didn't post on this. I am a loser and will accept any insults Captain Stevie (and Captain Stevie alone) deems worthy to call me. Except for the Italian Stallion please.
Kyle I read about what happened and I have been and will continue to keep on praying for you and your family. My father passed away when I was younger and it is never easy to lose those people we love who are close to us.
So here is the confession on workouts.... Week 1 I only got four of the runs in. This was due to some mountain climbing and kayaking trips in Alaska that wore me and my IT ban out. Total for week I I ran about 14 miles which is like 6 short of Matty's goal for my life. So far this week I have been bad. Today was the first day I ran. IT ban has been acting up again and it isn't happy. Overall its at a better place than it was last year, but todays run aggravated it a lot. I'm hoping if I take some anti-inflammatory or something it will go down some.
Men this season I hope to see everyone grow together as a team. I hope that we all grow spiritually together. I urge all of you to keep up with your devotions over the summer. Personally being away from Houghton makes it harder for me to stay in the word. Usually I spend less time doing devo's during breaks. During break the opportunity to witness and share my faith greatly increases, but my personal faith tends to stay stagnate. I am hoping that that won't happen this summer. One of the things Stevie asked me to do was a weekly devo for our mens team. I'm no Biblical scholar or even a wise individual, but I hope that God will work through me to show all of us some new and exciting things! So yea. This is my life.

Back Home

Hey everyone,

Real sorry to hear about Kyle's brother. I'll be keeping them in prayer, and I let my church know about it (anonymously), so its on our prayer chain.

As for me, I'm back home after completing Mayterm. Training-wise, I tried to follow the workout pattern for last week, but with lower mileage to build myself up. Unfortunately, I think I strained an already sore hip-flexor muscle on a moderate run last week and then didn't stretch enough. Now, things are getting better, I think/hope, and I'm going to start the "Week 1" training today. Last week, I got in around 23 miles, but I'll be trying for 40 this week.

If you guys could keep my youth pastor's wife in prayer, that would be great. She was in a car accident a little after Christmas. She has made TREMENDOUS progress since then, and is walking and talking. However, she isn't quite where she was mentally.

Until next week,
David

Week one on Staff

Hey Guys,
I just got into town on a day off (Deerfoot does not allow internet on its premesis) and I just found out about the tragedy that recently happened in Kyle and Jess' family, and in turn, our own. Me and my staff brothers will absolutely be praying. I speak from experience when I say that loosing a brother at any time in life is a crushing blow.

Its been a good first week on the job here at Deerfoot, and I've been appointed head Camping instructor. I've been doing regular morning workouts with the general staff, and on Monday we had a two mile race where I posted a, 10:57 time. Otherwise, we've been doing other 2-3 mile morning runs, as well as some sprint workouts. We've also been playing games each evening, so I don't doubt that the pancakes won't be sticking to my bones. I've also begun a 3000 push-up regimen to be completed in the next 12 days, and will be doing some long slow distance today for a week running goal of 25.

Hey guys I'm Evan
just a little about myself. I was born in Plattsburgh, NY but moved to Anna, TX after my father passed away. I was in the air force for six months after graduating high school, but unfortunately during a training exercise I drowned and was pronounced dead then discharged. So there's my life story!

I have been following the training plan coach matt put out, but yesterday I pulled my hamstring so I'll be taking it easy for a week or so.

And if y'all wouldn't mind praying for my church First Baptist Anna that would be great, because our pastor is resigning as of Sunday, so just lift up our church if you would! Thanks :D

Prayer Request

Hey guys,
My brother was just killed in a car crash today. I could really use your prayers for me and my family this week and definitely throughout the summer. I love you guys.
Run hard and stay strong.

Starting out

So I've been biking for an hour or more per day for the past few weeks, also doing some beach running and high-peaks hiking in the Adirondacks. Excluding the 35 miles of hiking though, my mileage this past week has been about 10, and my plan for this week is to put in 25.

Confessions of a Houghton Mayterming Freshman

Hey guys,

I'm currently in my second week of easy, short runs. Last week, it was 2-3 miles per day and this week its been about 3 miles per day. It was kind of annoying because I hadn't really trained (or stretched) since AMCs for track (Palm Sunday weekend), but I blame that partially on my sore foot (which was my fault because my running form is awful). Now, the running has been going pretty good and I'm starting to add in core workouts and bring my stretching up to where it should be.

I want to encourage you all to really put in some good training this summer, so we are prepared for the season in the fall. Also, more importantly, make time for your walk with God (and I'm talking to myself as much as I am to you all).

I'll be in Houghton for about another week, due to Mayterm. But after that, I won't be back until preseason.

First Post!

Hey guys,

I am currently finishing up my off week after the marathon. My legs have recovered very well from the race and feel great right now. The short runs I've done this week have shown my legs are ready to start next week when I'll be in Houghton dog/chicken sitting for Matty and Mary. Also I am currently weighing in at 194, so my goal for the summer will be to get up to the 225-250 range.

And now I'm off to play some frisbee.
